Grading Policy

Grading Breakdown and Explanation:

Formative Assessments: 20%
Formative assessments are learning opportunities for students to practice core concepts, vocabulary and other scientific knowledge. These type of assignments allow for continued feedback between the teacher and students, while also allowing multiple opporunities for mastery. Formative assessments, such as quizzes, can be re-taken or re-done without penalty.

Daily Work/Labs/Class Activities: 10%
Quizzes*: 10%

*You have one week from the day the quizzes is returned to schedule your quiz retake. To show you are ready for a retake, students will need to complete an extra practice assignment. These assignments are posted in the classroom (on the front bulletin board) and on the class website under "Study Guides". The most recent score is the one that will be recorded in the gradebook.

Quizzes and other formative assessments MUST be re-done if a score <70% is received.

Summative Assessments: 80%
Summative assessments are opportunities for students to demonstrate their mastery of content and standards. These occur throughout the quarter, as well as through the final quarter exams at the end. No retakes are allowed for summative assessments.
